Alexander Volkanovski may have just won the fight last weekend, but the Aussie star is already stirring the UFC pot. After beating a dangerous up-and-comer in Diego Lopes, ‘The Great’ has his sights on another up-and-comer, but Dana White may end up shaking his head. The fighter is not just a deserving candidate, according to Volkanovski, if it happens, he could also fulfill his pick’s longtime request for a title shot.
Movsar Evloev has come a pretty long way since joining the UFC in 2019 because he’s managed not only to remain undefeated by beating top contenders but he’s also beaten a former champion as well. For Alexander Volkanovski, Evloev has proved his case for a title shot, given that he’s been calling for it for some time now. In fact, ‘The Great’ claims that he wants to be the young one to hand the Russian fighter his first loss, which is a feat worth adding to his resume, but he’s not sure if this matchup sounds good to Dana White.
“He’s undefeated. I like the fact that he’s undefeated and still one of the younger generation again,” Alexander Volkanovski told Fox News Australia. “For the legacy, that would still mean so much. But you’re right. Is that what the fans want? Is that what the UFC wants? I don’t know. I’m gonna need to talk to them. We’ll see what happens.”

For context, Alexander Volkanovski’s two back-to-back knockout losses saw a certain section of the MMA community counting him out against the rising contenders in the division. Why? Well, his age was certainly the major factor, but his win over Diego Lopes removed all those doubts, and he certainly wants to keep that perception alive by fighting yet another young contender, who, if we take a look at his stats, deserves an opportunity to battle for the belt.
This is not the first time Alexander Volkanovski has expressed the desire to take on Movsar Evloev because he mentioned the Russian national’s name in his post-fight interview as well. And that reached the ears of the undefeated star, who expressed some doubts about getting to fight the champion. Here’s what Evloev had to say.

Movsar Evloev doubts Dana White will give him title shot against Alexander Volkanovski
Movsar Evloev is one of those aforementioned people who counted Alexander Volkanovski out after his two consecutive losses, but his perception changed after UFC 314. Satisfied with ‘The Great’s acknowledging him as a possible contender, he praised the champion on his impressive showing last weekend. But when it comes to getting to fight him, he doesn’t think the UFC brass and Volkanovski share the same sentiment about him.

Can Volkanovski's push for Evloev's title shot sway Dana White, or is it a lost cause?

“If you ask Volkanovski, he will fight because he’s world champ. But we don’t know if UFC need it… I don’t know. Maybe [it’s the lack of finishes in the UFC] because the only thing they can talk [about] is just I have no finish,” Movsar Evloev told MMA Junkie. Finishes often captivate the fans, which Evloev has never been able to achieve in the UFC. Even if he’s dominant, his style doesn’t get Dana White as excited as that of other top fighters.

Besides, Movsar Evloev has mentioned that he’s not going to beg Dana White for a title shot, and would even go on to achieve a 100-0 record without a title shot. But do you think that with Alexander Volkanovski pushing for it, the UFC CEO will finally give in to the Russian star’s demands? Let us know in the comments down below.
