The UFC 314 payouts are in, and one thing is clear: Alexander Volkanovski is not only back on top of the featherweight mountain, but he is also earning significantly more than everyone else. The 36-year-old champion received a massive $1,482,000 for his victory over Diego Lopes, well exceeding his opponent’s $682,000 payout. But what truly stood out was the stark contrast between Volk and his former rival and possibly next opponent, Yair Rodriguez. Despite competing on the same card, Rodriguez received $316,000—less than a fourth of the champion’s earnings.
Volkanovski’s performance might have been gritty and calculating, but his pay was pure supremacy. With pay-per-view points added to his base wage, the Australian star proves that experience and position in the Dana White-led UFC are more important than ever. At an age when most fighters begin to decline, Volk is cashing in—literally. Whether it’s because of his heritage, his proven drawing power, or the UFC’s knowledge of his marketability, the champ’s earnings substantially exceed those of any other fighter on the card.
Nonetheless, UFC 314 provided plenty opportunity for fighters to be recognized. Paddy Pimblett entered the event with expectations, but left with respect—and a large reward. After defeating Michael Chandler in the third round, the Brit earned $556,000 in prize money, including a $50,000 Performance of the Night award. Not bad for someone who joined the roster only a few years ago. Meanwhile, emerging star Jean Silva maintained his modest rise, earning $206,000 in total for submitting Bryce Mitchell, which was boosted by his own $50,000 incentive.

But that’s not all, as Patricio Pitbull, making his UFC debut, earned $204,000. And Dominick Reyes, once regarded as Jon Jones’ most difficult test, returned to the cage and won $161,000. However, none of them came close to Volkanovski’s salary. He departed Miami as not just a two-time champion, but also one of the highest-paid players on the roster. For the time being, he has the gold, the money, and a clear message for the division: the king has returned—and business is flourishing. So, what’s next for the new kingpin?
Alexander Volkanovski’s teammate root for a rematch
Alexander Volkanovski left UFC 314 with more than just gold around his waist; he walked out with options. With his overwhelming win against Diego Lopes, speculation about his future title defense has grown quickly. Movsar Evloev is next in the rankings, with a perfect 19-0 record and nine UFC victories. But Volkanovski’s teammate, Dan Hooker, could not be less interested. He isn’t impressed by numbers alone, especially when they’re bundled with what he terms “boring” bouts. Hooker’s choice for the next challenger? A man ‘The Great’ already beat—Yair Rodriguez.

Rodriguez’s recent performance at UFC 314 has led some to assume he’s not the same guy who was TKO’d last year. Against Patricio Pitbull, the Mexican striker showed exceptional precision and timing. It wasn’t just another victory; it was supremacy. Pitbull, a legend in his own right, couldn’t compete with Yair’s speed and range.

And, while Lopes argued that one major win does not entitle you to a title opportunity, Hooker sees things differently. Rodriguez exhibited the type of danger that fans—and fighters—respect. He believes it makes him more than worthy of another shot at the championship. “Yair was able to just dominate him and smash him. That was an incredible performance and I feel like deserving of a title,” Hooker said.

Hooker’s argument is not about loyalty or friendship. It’s all about enthusiasm, legacy, and putting on a show. Movsar Evloev may be undefeated, but his decision-heavy résumé lacks the same excitement. Meanwhile, Yair has a history with Volkanovski, an exciting fighting style, and a recent high-profile victory. In a division hungry for big moments, a rematch between these two might provide everything fans want.
