In one of the greatest fights ever witnessed inside the UFC Octagon, Israel Adesanya and Kelvin Gastelum faced off for the interim middleweight title at UFC 236. Stepping into the cage in Atlanta, Georgia, both fighters vowed to leave no stone unturned in their quest for gold. In a hard-fought, five-round battle, Adesanya emerged victorious, but Gastelum proved why he is one of the best. Six years later, the UFC immortalized their fight at UFC 312 as they inducted the bout into the Hall of Famer status.
The promotion through broadcasting announced that their fight will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame’s Fight Wing, Class of 2025. Well, how did Israel Adesanta and Kelvin Gastelum react to the news? With a smiling face, Adesanya face-timed his former opponent as he congratulated him for the induction, “Hermano, Hermano, we did it!”
Kelvin Gastelum, who has not fought since 2024, congratulated the former middleweight champion on his return. Adesanya further continued, “Congrats to you, man. It takes two to tango, and you’re a great salsa partner, man. Thank you so much. That’s what I said on the mic here on the camera when they put it on the screen. I was like, ‘Kelvin, that was us. That was you and me, hermano’.”

Interestingly, ahead of their meetup, Adesanya, in his statement on The Ariel Helwani Show praised Alex Pereira as his opponent, “God blessed me with a great opponent like Alex Pereira. He blessed me with a great challenge like that. And it’s easy to say that now on this side, but f—, it takes a lot to take on that man… I always knew that we would have history, and I always knew I could best him. I’m glad God blessed me with that challenge to be able to rise to the occasion.”

Well, Adesanya is not the only one who praised his opponent—’Poatan’ also took the stage to praise ‘The Last Stylebender’ as well. While having a conversation with Ariel Helwani, the light-heavyweight champion asserted, “No, I don’t see myself cheering against Israel Adesanya. I wish him the best… Maybe without him, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I wouldn’t have got into the UFC with the good contract that I did due to the history we have.”
The conclusion of one of the most impactful rivalries seems to be positive. With this in mind, could we also believe that Adesanya might train alongside Pereira in the future? State your thoughts in the comments below.
