UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has had a dominant reign in the division and risen to the top of the UFC’s pound-for-pound rankings. After The Nigerian Nightmare’ has attained the sport’s highest honor, he now wants to experience boxing as well. While the UFC p4p king has other choices that he could take into account for his boxing crossover, he has just one name in mind.

Kamaru Usman has been expressing his desire to fight Canelo Alvarez for a long time. Despite that not coming to fruition, he isn’t interested in the likes of Jake Paul.

The 25-year-old has been calling out top UFC contenders ever since his professional boxing debut. Paul previously agreed to a bout with Usman, but he laughed at the UFC champion’s $100 million demand.

Now, even ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’, who shares this sentiment, revealed he doesn’t want to share the ring with the Ohio native. When asked about his opinions on fighting ‘The Problem Child’, Usman, in talks with I Am Athlete, said, “No, not enough. Me fighting Jake Paul. I’m helping him. Me fighting Canelo is big. I beat Jake Paul. Nobody cares.”

Usman’s boxing debut will be a topic of a future conversation. In the present, the welterweight king has a new challenge coming up in his old opponent, Leon Edwards.

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ has successfully defended his welterweight gold five consecutive times. Now he is preparing for his sixth title defense this month.

Usman will take on the number two ranked welterweight contender, Leon Edwards, in the main event of UFC 278 inside Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah, on August 20.

It is interesting to note that the fighters have once crossed paths in the past. In their first slugfest, in 2015, the Nigerian fighter outpointed the Brit and secured a unanimous decision victory.

However, as ‘Rocky‘ has not suffered a single defeat since that event, he cannot be deemed an easy opponent for the champion.
