Podcasting is a difficult and laborious business. There are around 600,000 active podcasts in the US alone, and the most popular among them, unsurprisingly, belongs to Joe Rogan. The UFC commentator is a pioneer of the medium, being one of the first to adopt the then-largely unknown career option.

But, in such a difficult business, it helps to take cues and pointers from an established and successful player until one finds one’s niche. Which, in the case of podcasting, is the Joe Rogan Experience (JRE) podcast. And the Big Bang Theory (BBT) star Mayim Bialik is doing exactly that, as she revealed in a recent interview.

In the interview, Bialik also talked about why she started her podcast, as she is a regular fixture of the film and television scene, as well as the host of a popular game show. The 47-year-old said that it was because she had a general fascination with people and what made them what they were. She revealed that she was also interested in the more macabre parts of their lives. She confessed that one problem she faced was that she was shy in asking people questions that she feels are too personal, and that is where her co-host Jonathan Cohen shines.

I’m just generally fascinated by people: Where did they come from? How did they become the way they are? There’s almost always something in someone’s family — drama, intensity, alcoholism, death — to be uncovered,” the Jeopardy host told Vanity Fair.

Big Bang Theory star on the influence of Joe Rogan on her podcast

Bialik has played the role of Amy Farrah Fowler on BBT, as well as the titular character in the 90s sitcom ‘Blossom’. She currently hosts the popular game-show Jeopardy. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she spoke about her podcast, Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown. She told the outlet that she had taken inspiration for her podcast from an unlikely source: the $120 million worth Joe Rogan.

“Joe Rogan’s had tremendous success, and while I don’t emulate everything he does, his style inspires me,” the neuroscience PhD said. The actress was impressed with Rogan’s laid-back conversational style of podcasting and had sought to emulate it in her podcast. Rogan has the no. 1 ranked podcast in the USA as well as the UK, and was bought by Spotify for $200 million in 2020.
