Following a tough exit at the BNP Paribas Open, Iga Świątek arrived in Florida hoping for a reset at the Miami Open. But after ending her Indian Wells run on a bitter note, the Pole’s frustration doesn’t seem to have faded, and her practice sessions in Miami are starting to reflect that.

Świątek was recently spotted during a tense practice session in Miami. She trained alongside her coach, Wim Fissette, and appeared visibly frustrated. Her body language suggested that she is still dealing with the aftermath of her recent loss, and she is not satisfied with the level of her performance. More so, the Pole was even seen engaged in an argument with her team.
This has sparked fresh concern around her current form. Many observers feel she is not fully confident in her game at the moment.

However, while speaking with Miami Open officials about her practice sessions, she said, “I felt great during practice, but obviously, it’s usually you do like the close patterns there. So it’s going to also take some adjustment during matches, I would say.”

Her frustration was also evident during her quarterfinal loss to Elina Svitolina at Indian Wells. She smashed her towel on the court and lashed out at her team in a fit of anger.

She later dropped into her chair in visible frustration. This reaction was unusual for a player known for her calm approach. Looking at the match statistics, her frustration becomes easier to understand. Both players landed a similar number of first serves.
However, Świątek won only 62% of those points. Svitolina was far more efficient, winning 73% on her first serve. Both players also had identical second-serve numbers. They each won 15 out of 34 points in those situations.
The difference came down to execution. Svitolina committed only five double faults and struck five aces. Świątek, in contrast, had eight double faults and just three aces.

Now, Świątek shifts her focus to the Miami Open. She enters the tournament as the second seed, and has received a first-round bye. This means she will begin her campaign in the second round.

Her first opponent will be Magda Linette. The two have faced each other only once before on tour. That meeting came at the 2023 China Open, where Świątek dominated the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win.

In fact, the 24-year-old recorded her best result in Miami back in 2022. She defeated Noami Osaka in the final to win her 4th WTA 1000-level title.
This year, the road ahead may still be challenging. The winner could face Alexandra Eala, Laura Siegemund, or Petra Marčinko in the next round. This makes her path deeper into the tournament more difficult. Each round will test her consistency and mental strength.
And her recent dip in rankings has added further pressure. It reflects the struggles she has faced this season.

Dmitry Tursunov suggests Iga Świątek could fall outside the top five rankings
Iga Świątek has had a difficult start to the season. She has played three tournaments so far this year. In all three events, she exited in the quarterfinals. This pattern has raised concerns about her consistency.
Her first loss came in Melbourne. She was beaten in straight sets by Elena Rybakina. She then suffered a three-set defeat to Maria Sakkari in Doha. It was another tough match.

Most recently, she lost to Elina Svitolina in Indian Wells. That match also went to three sets. In each of these matches, she lost to lower-ranked players. This makes the results more concerning.

Her record against top players has also dropped. Since the 2025 US Open, she has won only once against a top-10 opponent. That lone win came against Madison Keys at the WTA Finals. Overall, she holds a 1-6 record against top players.
On top of that, she has now dropped from world No. 2 to No. 3, behind Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina. Later, Dmitry Tursunov, who has worked with Aryna Sabalenka, Emma Raducanu, and Belinda Bencic, raised concerns about her form. “It’s unlikely she’ll be able to get out of this slump. We’re not even talking about returning to the top of the WTA Rankings. We’re talking about staying in the top five,” he said.

He also questioned her current situation. “How many more warning signals does Iga – who is currently 10th in the ranking [WTA Race To Riyadh] need? I don’t ever remember her being under such pressure in her career or during her clay court competitions,” he added.
Now, Świątek prepares for her next match at the Miami Open. If she finds rhythm early, she can still go deep in the tournament. But consistency will be key for her comeback.
