How Novak Djokovic’s last-minute decision gave Lorenzo Musetti the surprise entry to the ATP Finals

Right after coming out victorious from the ATP 250 in Athens, Djokovic announced that left his fans disheartened. Djokovic stated that he has been dealing with a shoulder injury. And owing to the same, he would not be turning up in Turin to play the ATP Finals. The previous year, too, Djokovic did not participate in the season-ending championship.

Sharing the news, the Serbian legend stated in disappointment, “I was really looking forward to competing in Turin and giving my best, but after today’s final in Athens, I regret to share that I must withdraw due to a continuing injury.”

Such an unprecedented withdrawal gave Musetti a ticket to the ATP Finals. He lost to Djokovic in the Athens final. Musetti’s entry to the ATP Finals also marked the 23-year-old’s debut in the championship.

Novak Djokovic furthermore added, “I am so sorry to the fans who were looking forward to seeing me play; your support means so much to me. I wish all the players an amazing tournament.” Also, making a promise to be back in the court in full form he stated, “and I look forward to being back on the court with you all soon!” Now, as the ATP Finals are ready to unravel in Turin, fans would just wait to witness to finally bag the trophy and the $5 million prize.
