Kits are always a major attraction for fans at the FIFA World Cup. Teams bring the global tournament to life with their colorful jerseys, adding to the spectacle both on and off the pitch. The 2026 edition has continued that tradition while also introducing a new visual element: FIFA has unveiled special jersey patches for players to wear on their kits. Here’s a look at the different patches being worn at this year’s World Cup.

How Many Patches Are on FIFA World Cup 2026 Kits?

Each player wears the official tournament patch on the right sleeve of their jersey, featuring the FIFA World Cup 2026 logo. On the left sleeves, players will wear FIFA’s social impact patches, which will be rotated among the various campaigns the global football body has launched as the rounds go by.

FIFA has also introduced special jersey patches worn by select players on the right sleeve below the official FIFA patch to celebrate career milestones.

What Is the Official FIFA World Cup 2026 Sleeve Patch?

As mentioned earlier, players will wear the official tournament patch on their right sleeves, featuring the official event logo. However, former title-winning nations such as Brazil, Uruguay, England, Germany, Spain, and France have golden tournament logos on their right sleeves, while other non-title-winning nations wear a black-and-white version of the same patch or a color that complements their kit color and design.

One notable exception is Argentina, as the defending champions, who wear a golden patch titled “FIFA World Champions 2022” on their chest instead of their sleeves.

What Does the Left-Sleeve Campaign Patch Mean?

FIFA runs several social impact campaigns aimed at driving positive change through initiatives focused on peace, education, and community development.

At the 2026 FIFA World Cup, players are wearing patches representing these campaigns on their left sleeves. A different patch will be used in each stage of the tournament. The current “Unite for Peace” patch is being worn during the group stage, while the “Football Unites” patch will appear in the Round of 32 and the final. Meanwhile, the “Unite for Education” patch will be worn during the Round of 16, quarterfinals, and semifinals.

What Are the Special Player Achievement Patches at the FIFA World Cup 2026?

Debut Patch

This patch is for players making their World Cup debut. Players from Uzbekistan, Curacao, Cape Verde, and Jordan will all be sporting this patch as their nations make their World Cup debuts.

Meanwhile, some of the game’s biggest stars, such as Lamine Yamal and Erling Haaland, will also be wearing the patch, as this is their first appearance at the competition with their national teams.

Legacy Patch

This patch is on the opposite end of the spectrum from the Debut patch, as it is reserved for players who have appeared in more than five World Cups and have left a lasting mark on the tournament.

The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Luka Modrić will be wearing the Legacy patch at this year’s World Cup, recognizing their excellence and longevity in the game.

Golden Glove Patch

Goalkeepers who have won the Golden Glove award at previous World Cups will be wearing this patch. Thiabaut Cortouis and Emilio Martinez will be sporting this patch, with Manuel Neur also being eligible, but the German has opted to wear the Legacy Patch.

Golden Ball Patch

Players who have previously won the Golden Ball at the World Cup for their excellent performances throughout the tournament will wear this patch. Among the players who are eligible to wear this patch are Lionel Messi and Luka Modric, who are sporting both the Golden Ball and the Lgecay patches on their kits.

Golden Boot Patch

Former Golden Boot recipients who score the most goals in a single edition will be wearing this patch at the World Cup this year. Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane are the only two players eligible to sport this patch.

Why Did FIFA Introduce These New World Cup Patches?

The special patches are a unique fan-friendly measure adopted by FIFA to celebrate the milestones of players who have made significant contributions at this global event. From a commercial standpoint, these patches have been introduced through partnerships between FIFA and trading card companies like Fanatics and Topps.

As per the deal, the special patches will be removed from the jerseys after the match and made available to fans as memorabilia of their favorite players, beginning in 2031, once FIFA’s current partnership with Panini ends.
