The Formula One 2022 season is just around the and Haas F1 had to terminate their contract with the young Russian driver Nikita Mazepin because of the present scenario. Now, the American F1 team got a former Haas driver on board.

The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine is affecting various sports around the globe. And Formula 1 is not an exception; therefore, Haas F1 had to terminate their association with their partners Uralkali and driver Nikita Mazepin.

The American base had a vacant seat after Mazepin’s exit. Therefore, Haas was looking for a suitable replacement. Last season, Haas allowed two rookie drivers to join the team, and it wasn’t an excellent move by them. Hence, the American f1 team wanted someone with experience on their team and so, they got Kevin Magnussen on board.

Initially, fans speculated that the reserve driver, Pietro Fittipaldi to fill the vacant seat of Nikita Mazepin. However, the American F1 team shut those speculations with their tweet about the return of Magnussen. Soon, the Dane also revealed his association with Hass F1 on his Twitter.

The Danish driver is only 29-year-old and already has 7 years of experience in Formula 1. Magnussen began his F1 career with McLaren and then moved to Renault for a one-year stint. After this, the Dane moved to Hass F1 in 2017. Later, he quit Haas and Formula One after the 2020 season and competed in the 2021 IMSA SportsCar Championship.

Can Haas F1 win races in the 2022 season?

The Haas F1 had a disastrous 2021 season, finishing at the very bottom of the 2021 Constructor’s Standing without a single point. Both Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin finished at the bottom of the Driver’s Standing.

But the Haas team is working on their machinery to compete against other teams and bag some wins in the upcoming 2022 season. Haas revealed their 2022 challenger, VF-22, and Mazepin took the car for pre-season testing at Barcelona. However, the Barcelona testing for Haas was only limited to 159 due to mechanical issues. As a result, later in Barcelona, Haas withdrew from the testing because of required lengthy repairs.

Moreover, the American constructor might face some more trouble in the coming days. Because Nikita Mazepin’s father, Dmitry Mazepin, is allegedly planning to get a refund from the Haas F1 after the termination of their alliance with Uralkali.
