Surging lightweight MMA contender Halil Amir will soon return to action and move one crucial step closer to achieving his big career goals. This Friday at ONE Fight Night 16: Haggerty vs. Andrade on Prime Video, the Turkish sensation will square off with the dangerously well-rounded Ahmed Mujtaba, live in U.S. primetime from the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok.

After just two fights in the world’s largest martial arts organization, Amir has already left his mark on the talent-laden lightweight MMA division, taking out Timofey Nastyukhin and Maurice Abevi in a dominant fashion.

Those wins earned him the #4 spot in the divisional rankings and established him as a real threat to reigning titleholder Christian Lee. Undefeated across nine professional bouts, the 29-year-old knows he’s one of the organization’s fastest-rising stars. With his explosive striking at the heart of his all-around MMA game, he’s proven to be a talented finisher, owning seven career knockouts in addition to one submission win.

What’s more, Amir’s three-round battle with Abevi in April at ONE Fight Night 6 showcased his deep gas tank and legitimate grappling prowess. Well aware of the hype behind him, the lightweight naturally has his eyes on divisional gold, but he’s not about to look past Ahmed this Friday night.

“This fight is the next step to the fight for the belt,” Amir said. “I don’t know what plans ONE has for the lightweight division. I need to get past Ahmed first, and then we’ll see. I’m always ready.”

It comes as no surprise that the Amir Team representative hopes for the lightweight crown, but his aspirations for ONE World Titles don’t stop there. For him, the ultimate goal is to join the rarified ranks of a two-division ONE World Champion, joining the ranks of ONE megastars like Lee, Anatoly Malykhin, and Reinier de Ridder.
