Tawanchai PK Saenchai didn’t get to face the opponent he was originally preparing for this past weekend, so he’s still open to making the fight happen down the line. Last Friday, October 6, at ONE Fight Night 15, the featherweight Muay Thai king picked up his second consecutive kickboxing win at the expense of a very game “Smokin” Jo Nattawut inside the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. 

He was first scheduled to defend his World Title against Superbon Singha Mawynn in the main event of the star-studded show but was left without an opponent after his compatriot pulled out due to injury.

“Smokin” Jo stepped in on short notice, however, and he made life difficult for Tawanchai, coming out with guns blazing and keeping the match close. Nonetheless, the PK Saenchai striker was declared the victor by a unanimous decision in the end. He credited his team for helping him win and gave respect to his opponent following the bout.

 “First of all, I would like say thanks for all the support and my team, PK Saenchai. I want to say this: I don’t know if was a replacement for Superbon because he’s so strong,” Tawanchai told Mitch Chilson in his post-fight interview.  “I felt that he is so strong, and I know that he’s been training for me. I knew that this fight was going to be super hard because in the first round. He gave everything that he had on me.”

Tawanchai PK Saenchai addresses Superbon vs. Nattawut comparisons 

Nattawut threw as much as he could at the Muay Thai king over three rounds, absorbing his vaunted kicks and throwing powerful shots of his own. Asked if he thought his foe was stronger than Superbon, Tawanchai said he would reserve that answer for when he faced the former featherweight kickboxing king.

The 24-year-old sensation still has that battle in his head, and he says it needs to happen. “I haven’t fought Superbon before, so I have to fight him first to see how strong he is,” Tawanchai said. “I think it must be the fight that everyone was waiting for – me against Superbon.”
