After a successful ONE Championship debut in March, Tammi Musumeci is looking forward to producing another exciting performance in just over a week. The mutliple-time BJJ World Champion is set to welcome Amanda “Tubby” Alequin to the promotion in a strawweight submission grappling contest at ONE Fight Night 12 on July 14, with the action going live to audiences in North America via Amazon Prime Video.

While ONE fans will witness Alequin performing for the first time next Friday, Musumeci is actually very well acquainted with her.
Tammi Musumeci predicted a close matchup since she knew about Amanda Alequin’s skills
“We used to train together a lot. We’re actually close friends. I like her a lot. I think she’s a cool friend,” she revealed to ONE Championship. The pair worked out together from 2014 to 2016, fitting in intense training sessions when their busy schedules allowed. They have both won multiple tournaments since then and have even got to test each other twice in competition.
While Musumeci got the better of “Tubby” on both occasions, she has nothing but high praise for her upcoming opponent. “I just remember her being super aggressive, super flexible too. She used to fight the higher weight classes, and now she’s skinnier, but she’s still as strong as when she used to fight those higher weight classes, and long too. So she’s very good at this weight class,” she said.

After spending countless hours together in training and a total of 30 minutes in competition, Musumeci has a good grasp of Alequin’s skills.

Thus, the American grappler offered a quick preview of what fans can expect from the 28-year-old promotional newcomer. “She’s very technical. She’s always been very technical. She’s an amazing competitor. She has a good guard and also good passing. She’s pretty good everywhere, honestly,” Musumeci said.
“She’s going to come forward – that’s what she does. She goes forward, and she attacks. That’s how she’s always been, and that’s what makes her a really good competitor. Win or lose – her matches are always exciting because she doesn’t stop.”
