Jake Peacock had a ONE Championship debut to remember this past weekend, and he’s still riding high from the excitement of his win.

At ONE Friday Fights 58 on Friday, April 5, the limb-different striker announced his arrival on the global stage with a dominant unanimous decision victory over Japan’s Kohei Shinjo inside the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Peacock earned his spot in the world’s largest martial arts organization after winning Road to ONE: Canada earlier this year, and he immediately proved that he belonged in his promotional bow. The Dunamis Muay Thai product was dominant through all three rounds and had his way against Shinjo until the final bell, where there was little doubt who would get the judges’ nod. 

During a post-fight interview with ONE, Peacock reflected on his performance with great pride. “It’s an absolute honor to fight for ONE Championship. It’s most people’s dream, and I am living the dream. So I am very grateful to be on this platform and to showcase my skills with the best talent in the world,” he said.

“[My debut] was domination from bell to bell. And there’s no doubt I deserved the decision. I had fun in there, got settled in, and took my time. I didn’t get the finish. I was always looking for it, but it was nice for me to settle in for my debut.”

Due to complications at birth, the British-Canadian star is missing his right forearm. But he has battled through his career to earn 13 victories, and he now sits comfortably among the best strikers in the world in ONE Championship. 

Training doesn’t stop

To his credit, Shinjo displayed insane durability as he absorbed some huge shots from Peacock, but he couldn’t muster enough offense to assert his game. And though “The One” has just completed his first assignment in the world’s largest martial arts organization, he is determined to get back to work soon as he looks to rise up through the ranks further.

“I’m going to go straight back to the drawing board. I’ve got a lot to work on. I always do after fights,” Peacock remarked, “Whether I win them in the first round or they go the distance, there’s always room for improvement, so I’m going to keep my head down, go straight back to the gym, and stay ready for the next call.”
