The ONE Championship roster is a tough one. This is evident from the two losses Akhmetov has faced after signing up with the promotion.

The fighter is all set to soon face Tatsumitsu Wada at ONE: 158 at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore on Friday, June 3. With Adriano Moraes currently holding the title for the flyweight division, Akhmetov was asked if he wants a title shot after facing Wada.

Akhmetov said (h/t My MMA News), “By then, I would have faced all top fighters, so it would be logical to give me a title shot or at least schedule a super-fight against Demetrious Johnson.”

The second-ranked ONE flyweight further said, “I grew up watching his fights, he is the top pound-for-pound fighter, and I would be interested in testing myself against him. I would love to see if he is as great as they say and also see what I can show in a fight against him.”

“I don’t want to think too much about what happens after Wada. He is my goal for now. All I am thinking of now is how I will win him, but of course only God knows what is going to happen, so I leave it in the hands of the Almighty.”

‘The Kazakh’ currently has a 25-2-2 record. He is on a four-fight winning streak, whereas his opponent has two recent wins. So his upcoming fight against Wada will surely be interesting to witness.

Is Demetrious Johnson vs Kairat Akhmetov a fight that makes sense?

The ‘Mighty Mouse’ is one of the best in the game. Unfortunately, he is coming off an MMA loss against Moraes. However, it is important to remember that he beat Rodtang Jitmuangnon in a special rules crossover contest. Hence, the top-ranked flyweight will be high on confidence.

However, currently, Akhmetov is focused on his upcoming fight, which is just days away. While a win would seal the likelihood of getting a big fight ahead, a loss is something he can’t afford at this point in time. Should ‘The Kazakh’ win, he will be on a five-fight streak, and a clash against the top-ranked flyweight will make sense.
