Rodtang Jitmuangnon believes that as tough as his upcoming opponent is, it’s not impossible to find a way to defeat him. This Friday, September 22, “The Iron Man” is set to go up against flyweight kickboxing king Superlek Kiatmoo9 in the main event of ONE Friday Fights 34.

Originally scheduled to be a contest for the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Championship, their bout will now be contested at a 140-pound catchweight after Superlek missed weight.

Ahead of their bout, the Jitmuangnon Gym standout offered his thoughts on the strengths and weaknesses of his latest challenger ahead of their clash inside the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. 

“Superlek is tough, and he has a tight guard. He has a dangerous right kick. His strength is his zoning style. He will read his opponent’s movement and find a gap to counter. In terms of Muay Thai skills, Superlek is better than me for sure. He has solid fundamentals, while I am more of an improviser,” Rodtang told ONE in an interview.

“For his weakness, I think he can be knocked down if he gets a clean hit. And he seems to let his guard down a bit when he attacks. He relies too much on counterattacks, and I think he’s a bit slower. I think I can overcome him in speed.”

Superlek Kiatmoo9 gets a warning from Rodtang Jitmuangnon ahead of their highly anticipated Catchweight fight

Superlek is riding the momentum of three straight finishes in his four victories this year. The aggression he has shown in his latest fights has been a notable departure from his traditional style, where he has typically started slow before turning it up in the latter rounds. 

However, Rodtang believes that “The Kicking Machine” should think twice about pushing forward as fiercely when facing him. After all, everyone has seen the Jitmuangnon Gym representative eat shots like it’s nothing and rain down punishment in retaliation. Given his reputation, he offered a fair warning to his upcoming opponent that he wouldn’t hesitate to take advantage of any opportunity that came his way in their upcoming super fight.

“I think Superlek has shown good development. He started to understand what ONE wants. As in his [knockout win over] Nabil Anane, you can see he can fight in an aggressive style, and that he’s not shy to trade,” Rodtang said. “But he may not want to trade with me often. If he makes a mistake, I might knock him out. It’s as simple as that. If I can, I will win by KO.”
