ONE Fight Night 17 made sure that ONE’s final event on U.S. Primetime this year ended with a bang.

This past weekend, the all-Muay Thai card inside the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok saw seven knockouts in eight matches, proving yet again why the promotion is home to the planet’s best strikers. 

Roman Kryklia defeated Alex Roberts in the main event

At the main event, Roman Kryklia claimed the inaugural ONE Heavyweight Muay Thai World Championship at the expense of promotional newcomer Alex Roberts. The challenger had some flashes of brilliance in the first round, but Kryklia needed only 25 seconds in the second round to stop the WBC Heavyweight Muay Thai World Champion to claim two-sport and two-division supremacy. 

The co-main event between Jo Nattawut and Luke Lessei was the only fight that did not go the distance, but fans were clamoring for more rounds. All three rounds of the featherweight Muay Thai clash saw bell-to-bell action from both fighters, putting on a Fight of The Year candidate. In the end, it was “Smokin’” Jo who got the unanimous decision victory, and Lessei got the respect that he deserved on the global stage. 

In what could be the massive upset of the evening, late-replacement Mohamed Younes Rabah scored a first-round knockout victory over #3-ranked Saemapetch Fairtex in their bantamweight Muay Thai battle. Rabah stepped in less than two weeks’ notice for the injured Felipe Lobo but made a huge statement by taking out the hard-hitting Thai star. 

Former World Title contender Dmitry Menshikov also continued his winning ways by taking out Mouhcine Chafi in the first round of a lightweight bout. With back-to-back first-round knockouts, it may not be long before we see the hulking Russian challenge Regian Eersel once again for his coveted strap.

Another huge winner was teenage sensation Johan Ghazali, who folded former World Title challenger Edgar Tabares in flyweight action. The Malaysian-American shined in his first fight in U.S. primetime, and will surely excite more fans in the future.
