March 13 and 16- Nike Indoor Nationals, Tate Taylor secured the win 200m final with a time of 20.46 seconds. In a very fierce race, Brandon Arrington finished second with 20.49 seconds. Tyler broke the national school record with his performance, reflecting what Noah Lyles said: “Records are made to be broken, and he took that to heart. This is a crazy impressive time and win! Congratulations 🎉.

Talking of Lyles, his records are a tough nut to crack. Are they, though? No, said Brandon Arrington. Donning an all-black outfit, Arrington flew like a black hawk. FAST!!  With no opponents even in sight of competition, the track and field prodigy ran the 200m in the Arcadia Invitational within a record time of 20.35. A difference of 13 HUNDREDTHS from the Olympic GOLD MEDALIST. Makes you wonder who Brandon Arrington is!

Meet Brandon Arrington: The Rising Star in track and field

Arrington is still a high schooler who studies in Mount Miguel. The athlete is a native of Spring Valley, California. The 6’3 athlete is all set to graduate from high school in 2026 and join a college. Given his track and field capabilities, he has offers from some big names like Stanford, Oregon, Penn State, Alabama, etc.

He has himself visited a few like the Nittany Lions and Ohio as well. What is less known of him is that he is a football player as well. It was only when his father saw him outrunning everybody on the field that he pushed him for track. Still, there are chances that he might double sports in college. Talking of him as a football prospect, 247 Sports said, “Two-Sport standout and one of the fastest sprinters in the country. Has personal best times of 10.43-100m and 20.76-200m as a sophomore and could easily double sport in college“. 

Starting track from March last year, the prodigy has risen like the run in rankings. He started with being on 128th, come September 2024, he was at 52, then 49, then 47 in December. Now this year around he has been juggling in the top 10. His current national ranking is 8 and his state ranking is 2. But how good is he?

Brandon Arrington Career Highlights

The big break for the high schooler came in 2024 when he donned the black outfit for the CIF State Championship. Participating in the 100m dash, Arrington ran the track in 10.27 seconds in the preliminaries and secured the state title with a wind-legal 10.33 seconds in the finals. The 100m dash was something he wanted to prove. In the post-race interview, he said, “I came out here with a growth mindset because people were telling me I was a 4-2 guy, you know, and I was kind of getting irritated by people saying that, so I had to come out here and show people I can run a hundred.

He also went for the 200m dash in the same competition, and he won there as well. Clocking a 20.55 seconds on the watch, the man won the state total for this as well. Other than that, he has broken many records as well. He set the records for the San Diego Section in both 100m and 200m. He ran the century in 10.24 seconds and the double of it in 20.37 seconds.

Brandon Arrington Shatters Lyles’ 200m Mark

April 9, 2016 – California. There was an 18-year-old guy sporting a red half-shirt and blue shorts in lane 5 on the track of the Arcadia Invitational. Noah Lyles, who had already run a 100m in 10.17 that very day and shocked the world, was warming up for another shocker. As soon as the permit to run was granted, Lyles heated up. Not a sudden burst of speed, but he warmed up,  and 4 seconds later, he was cruising like a speed demon, clocking a 20.48 seconds. For 9 years, the record was untouched until Brandon Arrington thought he ain’t letting it stay for a decade and broke it today. Arrington ran 200m in 20.35 seconds to break Noah’s Arcadia Invitational 200m record.
