Kingston Grand Slam Track – Michael Johnson’s Brainchild – and Fred Kerley. That 7th-place finish might be one of the worst races in Kerley’s otherwise elite career; something that was highly unlikely, and desperately called for redemption. And the opportunity came soon. The Miami Grand Slam Track had every fan of the Olympian anticipating what he was gonna clock alongside the beaches. How would he prove himself to the world after what happened in Kingston? Guess what? Fred Kerley did not show up at the Miami Grand Slam Tour. The headlines, “Fred Kerley awaited in Miami,” sharply took a dark turn, becoming “Fred Kerley arrested in Miami“.
Things went south for Fred Kerley, as the man who was to don the athletic gear two days later had handcuffs on his hands. The Olympian was arrested 29 minutes away from Miami at Dania Beach. Reason? Alleged assault on his ex-girlfriend, and Olympian Alaysha Johnson. Reports claim that he struck Johnson in the face, causing her nose to bleed. He was taken into custody by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office and later released on a $1,000 bond. But the arrest wasn’t able to break the Olympian; he made his comeback to track and field. In fact, the man even dropped a three-word message for everybody who had questions.
The Azusa Pacific University is hosting the APU Franson Last Chance Invite from May 8th to 10th. What better opportunity for Fred Kerley to show the track and field community that he still has fuel left in the tank? The man made an appearance in the 100 meters event on 8th May. And whilst the outfit he donned was his statement black indeed, it wasn’t a regular one in the least; he rocked a custom speed suit from Rad Yo. In short, the man was out to silence every critic. And silence he did, with a run so good it had the fans saying, “Aye he still in top form I love to see it“.

Kerley started in lane 4, but in no way did he wish to finish before 1st. In Round 1 – Heat 1, he clocked a time of 9.95 seconds. Today, on May 10th, the man took to X posting a picture of himself donning the same suit, walking on the University’s track. The Olympian wrote, “Say no more“. A clear message to all his critics that he’s proven himself.

However, Kerley wasn’t the only one to say this. After he clocked a time of 9.87 (+2.9) in the Semifinal – Heat 1 of the same invite, his girlfriend, Cleo Rahman, aka DJ Sky High Baby, took to her X to write, “9.87 (clapping emoji) Say No More.” And along with his girlfriend, fans too have been won over by Kerley.

Is Fred Kerley's recent performance proof that personal struggles can fuel athletic greatness?
Have an interesting take?
This fan just gets it when he says, “This time in the media and all the stuff with the police finna turn Fred Kerley into a monster.” But he is not the only one to notice this in Fred Kerley. Another fan tweeted, “This guy gets locked up and still drops a sub 10 a week later 🤣🤣😭😭“- a little correction, not a sub 10 but two sub 10s. One in the round 1-heat-1 with 9.95(2.3) and then the semifinal with 9.87 (+2.9). No wait, what’s that? It’s THREE SUB-10s. In the finals of the 100m, Kerley clocked a wind-legal 9.98.

When another fan said, “Ok Fred Kerley that’s how you win“, he wasn’t lying. No one could have even touched him in the race; he was the only one to clock a sub-10. The second place went to Kendall Turner, who clocked 10.52, and Thenuk Chandrasekera came in third with 10.94. You have got to agree with this fan saying, “Fred looks ready to run some fast times later this year. It’s hard not to root for him. 🫡“.
Elsewhere, Justin Gatlin has also said in his Ready Set Go podcast then when the time comes for the qualifiers, Fred Kerley would shed the extra to focus on the 400m. What do you think about his performance? Is he on track to light up the upcoming races?
