Back in 2021, Ryan Lochte’s wife and former Playboy Playmate, who was named Playmate of the Month in July 2015 – Kayla Rae Reid, had a breast explantation surgery. Showing up in support of his wife, the swimmer took to Instagram to write, “Just wanted to say how proud I am of my wife @kaylalochte for standing true to her convictions and undergoing breast explantation surgery. There is nothing more important than one’s health and I am so happy for her that she will finally rid herself of all the horrific symptoms associated with breast implant illness. I love you!!! ❤️” While the man came out in complete support of his wife through this post, never in a million years would he have foreseen how their story would look in the next decade.

On June 4, 2025, Ryan Lochte took to his Instagram to announce an important update regarding his marriage. While presently the pair are still husband and wife, that is set to change soon. Posting a picture with only text, Lochte said, “I want to take a moment to acknowledge what Kayla shared. This past year has brought major changes for both of us as we’ve come to the difficult decision to end our marriage. I’m deeply grateful for the life we’ve built together and especially for the love we share for our three children.” 

In the post, Lochte further wrote, “Although this decision hasn’t been easy, I believe it’s the right step toward peace and well-being for us both. I remain committed to healing, growth, and co-parenting with care and respect as we move forward separately.” The same was resonated by Ried in her Instagram post, where she said that this was the hardest decision to protect their peace, their children, and their future.

Reid was the first one to confirm the divorce through an Instagram post, where she talked of it being a hard but needed decision. Taking on the news, the swimming community has been sending their prayers and condolences to the swimmer for this hard phase of his life, with one user saying, “I’m so sorry and wish you both the best in the future.” That gloomy sentiment seemed to be the general mood all around, as the news spread like wildfire.

Fans send prayers for Ryan Lochte for his divorce

A fan offered: “Thank you to our family and friends for your continued support — it truly means a lot as we begin this new chapter.” While the family support is crucial in these situations, especially for Ryan, who has a history of mental health struggles, he has the whole swimming community sending him prayers as well and wishing him luck for his new chapter.

“Sorry, sad… 3 kids,” one fan commented. The couple shares three children: son Caiden Zane, almost 8, and daughters Liv Rae, nearly 6, and Georgia June, 23 months. Another fan took to the comment section to say, “Ryan, I have no doubt that you and her will absolutely rock co-parenting. Your children will always feel their love all their lives. I will never judge your decision and I am always here as a long-time fan. Love from a swim teacher in Phoenix 💜” 

As said in the post itself, the swimmer is committed to co-parenting with care, so that his children feel his love. Fans have been taking a neutral tone as well, not taking sides in the divorce. One of them said, “Prayers to you and your family. And remember, please be kind to each other. Please move forward with love towards each other.” 

Another fan noted, “That is a shame. I’m so sorry to hear it. Kayla is working her — off and on social media and doing such a great job trying to rebound. It takes two and I know she’s doing her part. I know you’re doing your part so whatever is going on knock it off go to God and fix things and save your family.! 🙏” Kayla herself made a post on her Instagram where she talked of this decision – how hard it was, but letting go was her love. Court records show that Kayla filed for divorce on March 26. We hope everything goes well for both of them.
