Jonathan Owens may be an NFL safety, but this weekend, he looked every bit the star off the field. Simone Biles took center stage with the iconic “Riders Up!” call at the 2025 Kentucky Derby. Owens being the ever-supportive partner to Simone, played his part and dressed for the occasion, turning heads and creating noise on social media. The power couple owned the red carpet, and their effortless chemistry had fans swooning. Biles commanded the moment, but the NFL star? He captured it. From filming his wife’s big moment to sharing laughs behind the scenes, he played the perfect leading man. Then came the surprise: Owens’ actions left fans equal parts amused and intrigued. What happened? Let’s just say, his off-the-field slay involved more velvets than helmets…

Well, well—Jonathan Owens didn’t just turn heads with his purple suit. He may have also emerged as an unexpected Kentucky Derby oracle. Speaking to NBC Sports at the event, the NFL safety said,

“I’ve been three for three… I went three for three.” He then revealed his uncanny fourth prediction: “And the fourth race I’m like ‘I’m not gonna bet on this one,’ so I start telling people, and they’re like ‘Who to bet on?’ and I’m like ‘Bet on 2.’ And then 2 wins, and it’s just like—it’s kind of crazy.” And when NBC’s Rebecca Lowe asked him for his prediction for the May 3 race, he said, “ I can’t say them here, I gotta keep them to the family.”

Well, he didn’t tell them on camera, but it seems his other prediction has come true. NBC’s Rebecca Lowe posted on Instagram: “And @jowens you were right! Number 18!!! Another win! 🏆 Owens reshared the story. Is this the NFL’s newest psychic in velvet?

Well, if you weren’t keeping tabs on the Derby, here’s the headline: Sovereignty, coming out of Gate 18, stormed to victory in the 151st Kentucky Derby. Early chaos saw Journalism, the favorite, boxed in. Neoequos led late but couldn’t hold off the fast-finishing Sovereignty. Jockey Junior Alvarado timed the run perfectly, crossing the line in 2:02.31. It was trainer Bill Mott’s second Derby win. Meanwhile, No. 18—a number Jonathan Owens hinted at—ended up at the top. And oh yes, Sovereignty came out of that fateful Gate 18… the very number Jonathan Owens told Rebecca Lowe off the air.

Well, that wasn’t the only moment of his that stole the Spotlight.

Simone Biles’s love for horses officially galloped into the spotlight. The Olympic legend, who once shared a horseback ride in Hawaii with husband Jonathan Owens, brought her equestrian flair to the 151st Kentucky Derby—and she did it in serious style.

The couple made a statement on the red carpet, with Simone in a diamond-accented lavender mini dress and matching fascinator by The Hat Girls. Jonathan matched the mood in a purple fedora, slick jacket, and white trousers.

Biles followed in the footsteps of fellow gymnastics star Livvy Dunne, who had performed the “Riders Up” call just a day earlier during the Kentucky Oaks, the Derby’s sister event

Simone, a seven-time Olympic gold medallist, stepped up to the mic before the grandstands to energize the crowd and signal the start of the main event: Ladies and gentlemen, the city of Louisville, the commonwealth of Kentucky, and sports fans from around the world have been waiting for this moment—Riders Up!”
