Missing one Olympics is heartbreaking enough, but to miss two is simply devastating. However, for one Florida Gators gymnast, this was the reality. But while many would’ve given up at this point, she continues her stride. But broken dreams are hard to recover from, and when an Achilles injury shattered her berth to Paris 2024, many thought this was the end. Yet, the Florida Gator remains hopeful about her future as she finally opens up about her experience. For those who still don’t know her, this is none other than Skye Blakely.

The Gators’ gymnast was expected to be one of the biggest draws of the Olympics. Unfortunately, her dream was cut short for the second time. With her dreams shattered to pieces for the second time straight, she clenched her teeth and went back to recovery. Now, after seven months have passed, Blakely is looking to push forward for yet another Olympics. Her progress so far has been extremely impressive.

Competing in the season opener for the Gators made her fans light up with joy as they admired Blakely’s resilient work ethic. However, she does not want to go overboard with her progress. Although she is fancying a berth at the Los Angeles Olympics 2028, Blakely wants to take things slow. In an interview with Olympics.com, the young gymnast claimed that she has been feeling quite comfortable. Blakely also opined that having gotten the opportunity to compete on the bars was a feel-good moment for her.

And while she has been getting stronger with each PT session, Blakely still cannot forget the horrifying doom that dawned on her. Recalling her horrors from the Paris Olympic trials, Blakely told Olympics.com, It was definitely devastating in the moment, knowing just how hard I had worked to get there and how ready I felt.” Surely, ahead of her injury, Blakely was in top form.

She successfully made two US World Championship teams and also secured a runner-up finish at the 2024 US Nationals. Thus, Blakely knew exactly how prepared she was. And with age on her side, the 20-year-old is not letting the opportunities slip away from her. She further added, “But knowing I was so close made me realize I don’t want to give up on the dream I already had for myself. I just want to get back healthy and work toward it again.”

Now, Blakely is not yet sure whether she would want to return to elite competition this year. However, LA28 is surely a dream that she is dreaming of. Speaking of her Olympic dreams, Paris was not her only heartbreak. Blakely also injured her elbow ahead of the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. However, her recent form for the Florida Gators is enough to make her fans dream the California dream.
