Russell Wilson just put in a fantastic performance against the Arizona Cardinals. He completed 23 of his 28 passes and completed 2 touchdowns as the Seattle Seahawks defeated the Cardinals 28-21.

Wilson threw for 197 yards in the game, averaging about 7 yards. Additionally, he was a threat rushing, averaging 4.2 yards on his 10 rushes.

Wilson’s performance is generating MVP talk. While these conversations are premature at the moment, his game was too good to ignore.

Wilson has never quite come close to winning MVP considerations. A consistently great quarterback, Wilson has always been a whisker’s length away from the accolade.

Wilson was the shining knight in armor for the Seahawks in their 2014 Super Bowl win over the Denver Broncos, throwing 2 important touchdowns. Since then, Wilson’s game has gone from better to better, but the Seahawks have failed in the post-season.

Wilson started this season strong, making history. He joined Brett Favre and Drew Brees as the only quarterbacks in NFL history to throw 30 or more touchdowns for 4 consecutive seasons.

For Russell Wilson, his focus was primarily on bringing the Seahawks back to the Superbowl. After a disappointing Superbowl loss to the New England Patriots in 2015, the Seahawks have failed to reach the stage.

While MVP considerations are a good indicator, it is still very early in the season. Wilson will have to continue this level of play in order to get some serious traction to his cause.

Nick Wright went on First Things First to discuss Wilson’s MVP candidature. Wright believes that Wilson will finish second in the race for the first time in his career.

“For the first time in Russell Wilson’s career, after that performance last night, he is going to finish second in the MVP voting. And that’s an honor. They don’t give you a trophy for it, but that’s an honor.

“Kyler Murray is dispatched, you don’t have to worry about him no more. Russ has jumped above Aaron Rodgers and he has that silver medal, and he can almost grasp that MVP silver medal for the first time in his career.

“And I’m happy for him. He deserves it. He absolutely deserves it.”

Wright makes a bold prediction, given Wilson’s performances this season being MVP-worthy. But it would still bring Wilson closer than he ever has been to the MVP trophy. However, is that enough?
