Replaced by rookie Jalen Hurts, the Eagles franchise is looking to rebuild from scratch. But even with Hurts under center, confidence is not running high in the Eagles camp.

With doubts remaining over Hurts’ potential as a starter, many believe that the Philadelphia Eagles could benefit from bringing in another experienced quarterback as backup or to provide competition.

But NFL Analyst Stephen A. Smith feels a return to Philly might not be ideal for the quarterback.

Better to avoid Philly for Nick Foles

During a segment of ESPN’s First Take, Smith, when asked about a potential Philly reunion for Foles, was quick to dismiss it.

“Listen, how old is Nick Foles right now. He’s 32 years of age. So you would think that he’s got a lot of time and I understand that, but he’s been relatively fragile for the most part. He’s not a guy that you want to place the franchise on his shoulders,” said Smith.

Talking about why the Eagles were not the right fit for the current Chicago Bears QB any longer, Smith listed a multitude of problems afflicting the franchise.

“Last time I checked, we talked about a multitude of problems that the Philadelphia Eagles have. Their offensive line troubles. We know that they’re expected to get new receivers as they just lost Desean Jackson to the Los Angeles Rams.

“So when you look at it from that perspective and you’re thinking about the direction that they’re going in as a franchise. There are too many question marks,” said Smith.

Smith even went on to question the schematic fit of new Head Coach Nick Sirianni.

“Wide receivers are a question mark, your offensive line is a question mark. Your new coach from a schematic perspective, that’s a question mark.

“So I look at all of these things going on right now with the Philadelphia Eagles, and it’s not an ideal situation for Nick Foles to walk into.”

With the Eagles entering the upcoming season with no established backup for Hurts, do you think it would be wise to sign Nick Foles on a 1-year deal?
