Larry Fitzgerald is a household name in the NFL. One of the greatest to have played the game, the wide receiver is almost undoubtedly set to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer once he hangs up his boots. 

That would place Fitzgerald in some elite company. After all, only seven wide receivers have etched their names forever at Canton, Ohio on the first try. This includes the likes of all-time greats such as Calvin Johnson, Randy Moss, and Jerry Rice to name a few. 

And such has been Fitzgerald’s contribution to the Arizona Cardinals that he fits right in. With 17,492 receiving yards, Larry Fitzgerald is second only to Jerry Rice when it comes to all-time receiving yards.

But with all this talk of Fitzgerald being a Hall of Famer arises the question of when he ultimately calls it a day on his NFL career. Currently a free agent after spending 17 seasons with the Cardinals, might we have seen the last of Larry Fitzgerald as an NFL player?

Larry Fitzgerald looks to bow out with Super Bowl ring

By the time the 2021 NFL season comes around, Larry Fitzgerald will be 38. By that age, most wide receivers are back home, sitting on a chair, and enjoying a cold beverage cheering their favorite team on from home. 

But not Fitzgerald. Even last season, Fitzgerald put up over 400 receiving yards by starting just 13 games. While the numbers suggest he is nowhere near his once impeccable best, he still has the chops to contribute to an NFL offense.

The Cardinals’ are yet to make a move for the wide receiver they drafted in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft. But that doesn’t mean Fitzgerald has called it a day on his career. 

The wide receiver is still very much active and in the hunt for a new team. And for now, it seems, he’s ready to play the waiting game. 

Perhaps the only regret for Fitzgerald so far is not having a Super Bowl ring to show for his incredible performances over the years. But being a free agent enables him to pick and choose a franchise of his liking. A franchise with serious Super Bowl ambitions. 

The Minnesota Vikings have been strongly linked with a move for the wide receiver. A native of Minneapolis, a move back to his roots makes sense.

The Vikings have an up and coming star in Justin Jefferson. And signing Fitzgerald would enable the young wideout to learn from the very best. 

Where Fitzgerald might end up is still unknown. But one can certain of one thing, the story of Larry Fitzgerald in the NFL is not over yet.
