The Houston Texans franchise has been on a downward spiral for sometime now. Starting from the trade of key wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to their star quarterback Deshaun Watson asking for a trade, the NFL’s youngest franchise is in all sorts of trouble.
With key players looking for moves elsewhere, one has to wonder just how long defensive end J. J. Watt would be keen on sticking around. Drafted 11th overall in the 2011 NFL Draft, Watt has been a cornerstone for the Texans’ side over the years.

Watt could go the Deshaun Watson
The rumor mill has been abuzz of late regarding the future of Deshaun Watson. The quarterback recently put in a trade request to move to greener pastures. While the team remains adamant about holding on to Watson for 2021, not much was known regarding the future of Watt. Until now.
ESPN’s James Palmer recently tweeted that according to sources Watt may have played his last game for the franchise. This would be another huge setback for the franchise looking to build afresh around a few core players.
With Watt being one of them, the 4-12 Texans with a new Head Coach and GM could well be staring at an even more disastrous 2021 season.

The 3-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year has been one of the best in his craft. Though his output tapered off a bit in 2020, he remains one of the league’s most feared defensive end.
Watt’s fall in output though can’t be blamed on him solely. The players around him have been subpar at best. The Texans had one of the league’s worst defensive units in 2020. The team ranked 30th in terms of total passing yards allowed and dead last for rushing yards conceded.
Watt, 31, faces a decision to make. Though he may no longer be in his prime, he still is a player several NFL franchises would be keen on adding to their roster.
But with time running out, Watt should look to follow the Deshaun Watson route if he wants to end his career with at least one Super Bowl ring.
