49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo is recovering from a shoulder injury that required surgery in early March. The 49ers wanted to trade Garoppolo since the last season and were in talks with many free-agent quarterbacks. All this made it apparent that the 49ers are looking to move on from its star QB. But it’s already July, and Garoppolo is still on the team’s roster and might play his Week 1 with them.

It does not surprise NFL analyst Nick Wright as the 49ers did not trade Jimmy Garoppolo until now. During an interview, he also had some harsh comments about the 49ers’ QB. Wright said“Because I have been in lockstep with Kyle Shanahan and 31 other head coaches or GMs that Jimmy Garoppolo is not someone you want to be your starting quarterback.”

Wright claims he had been in talks with San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and the coaches of the other 31 teams. However, Garoppolo is not the starting quarterback any team is looking for. Wright went forward to compare the situation of Garoppolo with that of the sectional sofa. The sectional sofa is expensive and comfortable, but it is always hard to get rid of it.

Nick Wright states the reason no NFL teams are interested in 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo

Wright said, “You got to pay someone to take it from you. You’re like, Well, I can’t just throw it on the street. No, you will not give me any money for it. No. I have a truck. You don’t have to give me $50 just to take it off your hands. And that is the position we are in with Jimmy Garoppolo.”

Wright also mentions that preseason starts next month, and Garoppolo hasn’t been traded till now. He says no team is interested as Jimmy G is expensive, and nobody would want to pay $25 million to get him.

In 2022, Garoppolo has a compensation package of $25 million, but none is guaranteed. Seeing his performance in the 2019 season, he was guaranteed $7.5 million of his 2022 salary, but only if he is injured. So, if Garoppolo remains on the roster and misses the season because of his shoulder injury, the 49ers would have to pay him that much.

In the last season, the 49ers traded Trey Lance with three-first rounders and a third-rounder. Lance also started two games for the 49ers in 2021. Well, the 49ers are in a dire need of a starting quarterback as Garoppolo is recovering from his shoulder injury. Many consider that Trey Lance would start the games for the 49ers this season.
