The NFL’s running back situation keeps getting worse! Although it has gone on for a while now, this current season, the situation made serious headlines, due to involvement from the likes of OJ Simpson, who voiced his concerns about the league’s top-tier RBs, Saquon Barkley and Josh Jacobs. However, both these backs still failed to secure an extension with the team. Joining this fray, the Colts‘ formidable RB, Jonathan Taylor, faced a similar contract negotiation struggle and unfortunately missed the deadline just a day ago. Adding to the drama, the team’s GM made a noteworthy statement that caught the eye of ex-Undisputed, Shannon Sharpe.

Regrettably, the Colts were unable to trade their RB prior to the self-imposed Tuesday deadline. This misstep will now result in Taylor missing four games this season. GM Chris Ballard expressed his frustrations about the situation during a recent press conference, leaving the Blue Crew understandably disappointed.

Shannon Sharpe rekindles Colts’ past blunders

During a recent press conference, GM Ballard openly aired his frustrations regarding Jonathan Taylor’s situation. When a reporter raised concerns about the potential impact of Pro Bowl running back Taylor’s contract dispute on the growth of their first-round pick, Anthony Richardson, Ballard hesitated to fully embrace the idea, suggesting that it wouldn’t hinder the rookie QB’s development. In an unexpected twist, Ballard referenced the team’s former QB, Andrew Luck, highlighting how Luck flourished without a star running back. This remark stirred a significant backlash, as Luck’s career was essentially cut short due to the organization’s mismanagement.

As the video of this conversation circulated on social media, fans swiftly criticized Ballard for his apparent double standards and blatant hypocrisy. The response also caught the attention of the 3x Super Bowl champ, who retweeted the clip, saying, “Anyone want 2 tell him what that organization did 2 Luck and his career or wait until Monday 4 me 2 share it on First Take.” Sharpe’s reply also received mixed reactions from the NFL world, as he sets the stage for his new gig at ESPN, alongside, Stephen A. Smith.

Jonathan Taylor is still up for a trade?

Last month, the standout Pro Bowl running back initiated trade talks with his team, triggering a flurry of attention due to the noteworthy statements and actions from both the GM and team owner, Jim Irsay. Irsay has been vocal in expressing his perspective, consistently sharing his opinions and even taking indirect jabs at agents representing running backs.

While the Dolphins couldn’t secure a trade deal with the team and the Packers were reportedly also interested in Taylor, discussions were ongoing. Despite the passing of the self-imposed deadline, there’s still a window until October 31 for trade negotiations to occur. Meanwhile, Taylor will remain on the team’s physically unable-to-perform list, and there’s even speculation about the possibility of him sitting out the entire season.
