Las Vegas Raiders TE Darren Waller started playing football at the age of 5. While his parents were big football fans, they always supported Waller in chasing his dreams. Although he made it to the NFL in 2015, his journey to becoming one of the Top-3 tight ends in the league was not easy. He is soon coming up with his podcast, ‘Comeback Stories’, where he will share his life story and his fight against substance abuse.

Recently, Darren Waller was invited to The Rich Eisen Show, where he talked about battling addiction and his new podcast. In the show, Rich Eisen asked him about living in Las Vegas and how the city was helping him recover.

On the show, the 29-year-old Waller said, “I feel like God has a sense of humor just because I’ve been here and I feel at peace more than I ever have been. And I’ve had my relationships with the men in my life that I lean on and commune with on a week-to-week basis are stronger than ever and I can just be honest with them.”

Although Las Vegas is primarily known for its nightlife, gambling, and entertainment still Waller says he is unaffected by the distractions. Waller has found peace in the city, which has helped him work on building his relationships with people.

Raiders TE further said, “And I just feel protected here. I feel safe here. I feel welcomed here. It’s a crazy thing, like in a city like Vegas, like, how could you possibly stay sober or thrive being sober? But I couldn’t imagine being in a better place for my recovery and for me to continue writing my story.”

Darren Waller has a rough past in his NFL journey. He was suspended from the league two times in 2016 and 2017. Waller has one of the most inspiring stories, from battling an addiction to becoming the top-3 tight end in the league.

Darren Waller is working to help the youth fight against addiction

The star player is taking his utmost care as he sees his therapist once a week. Not only this, but he is also mentoring the young people who are fighting against addiction. According to Darren, it is essential to keep it real and talk about things that make one anxious.

Waller had multiple injuries in 2021, which hindered his ability to perform at his best. In 2020, Waller had a receiving a grade of 91.2. Last year, it dropped down to 73.9 due to his back and knee injuries. The 6-foot-6-inch player will be looking to bring back those numbers in the upcoming season. 

His receiving abilities are what makes the star TE look dangerous. But, now with the newly acquired Davante Adams by his side, the Las Vegas Raiders‘ offense is already looking fierce.
