Patrick Mahomes has been inspirational for the Kansas City Chiefs ever since he came into the lineup in 2017. With each passing year, he has matured into a formidable threat in the NFL. The QB inspired the Chiefs to clinch their seventh straight AFC West title with a win against the Houston Texans on Sunday. But the jittery manner of the win has an ex-Super Bowl champion worried.

Ex-Pittsburgh Steelers Safety Ryan Clark heaped praise on the Chiefs quarterback. And he also asked Mahomes to carry the team this season, although he has Travis Kelce to get help from.

Patrick Mahomes has to carry the Chiefs

Patrick Mahomes dug the Chiefs out of a hole to lead them to an OT win over the Texans in week 15. And his performance has left quite an impression on Super Bowl XLIII winner Ryan Clark. Clark said that the Chiefs QB is the sole reason why everyone can talk about the franchise every week and will have to carry the team this season.

“He has the best tight end in ball in [Travis Kelce] but Patrick has to fight like hell!” Clark said.

The Texans made the Chiefs work hard to earn the win on Sunday. The Chiefs trailed for most of the game before forcing an OT where they won on the first drive. And Mahomes was the conductor of the orchestra that is the Chiefs.

A fan can never judge if the Chiefs are struggling after looking at the stats posted by Patrick Mahomes. Kansas trailed against the Texans for most of the game. But in the end, Mahomes proved to be the only difference between the win and loss for the franchise.

Mahomes threw 336 passing yards in the game with 36 pass completions. He also posted a career-high of 20 straight completed passes. The Super Bowl LIV champion threw two passing touchdowns and rushed for another one. And because of him that the Chiefs managed to edge past the Texans in OT.

Mahomes currently leads the league in both passing yardage and the number of touchdown throws. He is one element the team cannot do without. And he has led them to a seventh straight AFC West title.

With the playoff berth confirmed, the Chiefs can start keeping an eye out for the postseason preparations. And lessening the burden on Mahomes’ shoulders should be their number one priority. If everyone does their jobs well, there is no way this team cannot go the distance this season.
