After being the head coach of the Denver Broncos and getting released mid-way, Josh McDaniels will be joining his second team as a head coach at Las Vegas Raiders. McDaniels has always credited his mentor Bill Belichick for the rise in his career, but he also says he is different from his former boss.

The Las Vegas Raiders reported McDaniels saying, “I’m not Bill [Belichick] and I can’t be. I’m just going to try to be myself, and hopefully, I can be a good leader for our team.” 

McDaniels relationship with Belichick goes a long way back to when he worked under Bill Belichick as an Offensive Coordinator for New England Patriots. He served as an OC for the Patriots for 13 seasons. 

Josh has served under Bellichick for a long time. He is aware of the Bellichick ways and how he had run the Patriots for so many successful seasons. But he denies being anything like him. Josh wants to be himself and be the leader the team requires.

McDaniels returned to Bill Belichick in 2012 and helped the Patriots win another Super Bowl

While in between his tenure with the Patriots, he joined Denver Broncos as the head coach from 2009 to 2010. In his second season, he got released midway as he struggled with the Tim Tebow-led Broncos. He had a lucrative offer from Indianapolis to be their HC but turned down the offer. McDaniels then went back to the Patriots in 2012. He helped Tom Brady lead the Patriots to another Super Bowl win.

He had been eyeing new opportunities and found a perfect one with the Las Vegas Raiders. McDaniels said, “I’ve been looking forward to an opportunity like this for a couple of years now, and I’m so blessed to have the staff that we have and the group that we have working, and the support staff that we have around me. They make my job easy.”

McDaniels is satisfied with his decision and appreciated the team’s staff who are working to make his job easy. The six-time Super Bowl-winning coach is ready to cooperate and work with the Raiders to take them to greater heights.

Further, he won’t be following the old ways to find success. Instead, he will make the rules which best suit the players.
