On the Manningcast, Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ quarterback admitted that Miami Dolphins from 2000 to 2005 had the best defense in the league. Yes, Miami Dolphins, who are currently struggling, had the best defense in the league, a decade and a half ago. This claim didn’t sit well with folks who are currently watching the Dolphins’ progress.

But we have to go back to those years to examine how Miami stopped a rampaging New England Patriots offense. Right off the bat, we credit Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas. Former NFL Defensive Player of the Year and three-time All Pro, Jason Taylor was the backbone of Miami’s defense. And five-time All Pro linebacker Zach Thomas also made offenses sweat when they played the Dolphins.

“Think of those early Miami defenses. 2000 to about 2005, they lined up the same front, same coverages; I think the worst games of my career was against the Miami Dolphins. I mean, like 79 yards passing, 115 yards passing. We couldn’t move and we couldn’t complete passes. It was embarrassing. And they didn’t do anything different.”

Of course, Twitter had a field day with the memes as they took Brady’s analysis and ran with it. In an instant, Twitter blew up with talks about how Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas kept a rampaging Bill Belichick led offense at bay. Within a few moments, their All Pro statuses rose to an even higher stance, making them living legends.
