The New England Patriots just missed out on an opportunity to make the playoffs for the first time since Tom Brady‘s exit in 2020. But the team lost an important game in the final week of the NFL against the Buffalo Bills. While the Miami Dolphins stole a step on their divisional rivals, this left the fans ultimately disappointed as they now go through a 3rd consecutive season without a postseason chance. This has sprung extra pressure on the Patriots to make reassurance to the fans who are more familiar with winning seasons.

After another letdown of a season, the New England Patriots made quite a unique press release from the organization’s behalf. ESPN NFL reporter Mike Reiss recently shared a post on Twitter which had the NFL world questioning the strategy of the Patriots. He captioned the post, “Something a little different from the Patriots: A press release announcing they are negotiating with Jerod Mayo… and will begin interviewing offensive coordinator candidates next week.”
As one can guess, the post contained a press release by the franchise declaring their ongoing talks with Jerod Mayo. The Linebackers coach has been with the team since 2019. Now the organization is looking to extend that contract for a long-term period.
On the other hand, they have also announced that they will be interviewing new offensive coordinator candidates for this upcoming season.

Following the reports, much of the NFL world was surprised by the nature of the statement. There were fans who claimed that it was something that they had never seen before.

This will be a welcomed news from the Patriots’ fans, who could not stop complaining about Matt Patricia this season as their main offensive shot caller. Their 2020 NFL Draft first-round pick, Mac Jones, looked like a shell of himself this season.
However, this news also provides some confidence in the young QB. With the team searching for a new OC, it indicates that the organization might be willing to give the benefit of the doubt to Jones.
