Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on Monday Night Football after an unfortunate collision with Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. Extremely melancholic scenes followed at the Paul Brown Stadium. The 24-year-old’s heart stopped and the medical team had to use CPR to resuscitate Hamlin. And Damar’s uncle couldn’t take it.

After 8 minutes of CPR, Damar Hamlin was transferred to the University of Cincinnati Medical Centre. Damar remains in critical condition despite his heartbeat getting restored. However, almost 48 hours after the incident, there is a glimmer of good news coming out of Hamlin’s corner.

There are positive signs emerging for Damar Hamlin

The Buffalo Bills’ official Twitter handle updated fans about the latest developments in Damar’s situation. There has been a slight improvement. However, he will be in intensive care until further notice for monitoring.

I’m just glad he’s still alive, and he’s able to fight. And trying to get better and recover. I just want to show my gratitude to the medical staff. If not for them, my nephew probably wouldn’t be here,” Damar’s uncle Dorrian Glenn told CNN reporters outside the UC Medical Center. Dorian had previously told CNN that Damar had to be resuscitated twice. However, a family spokesperson has since confirmed that Hamlin received CPR only once.

Damar Hamlin remains on ventilator support, lying face down, to help blood and oxygen circulation for his damaged lungs. However, Glenn said that his nephew’s health was “trending upwards in a positive way.

Dorrian Glenn travelled more than 300 miles to be by his nephew’s side from his home in Pittsburgh, where was enjoying some MNF action with extended family. And to the horror and shock of everyone present, the game was stopped because of the horrific tragedy.

The NFL suspended the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills game after an hour of the incident, bringing some criticisms along. And the league hasn’t yet decided upon a rescheduled date for the rematch.
