Nearly nine months since the NFL scare that had everyone holding their breath, Damar Hamlin is neither sweating about the past nor the playbook. The Buffalo Bills‘ safety is all about living in the now. And it looks like he’s passing that game-day gospel to his buddy, Trevon Diggs, the Dallas Cowboys’ star cornerback. While Diggs basked in the spotlight for the first two weeks of NFL action, it seems this top-tier corner might be riding the bench for a bit.

As the Dallas Cowboys gear up for their Week 3 showdown, Diggs took a hit to his ACL during practice. Another star bites the dust, joining the ranks of players sidelined by ACL and season-ending injuries this year. With friends and fans crossing their fingers for Diggs’ swift recovery, Hamlin’s got the love on lockdown, and it’s one heartwarming sideline saga.

Heartfelt gesture: Damar Hamlin’s tribute to Trevon Diggs

According to reports, Diggs suffered the injury during the one-on-one portion of practice and left the team’s headquarters on crutches. He underwent an MRI that confirmed the Cowboys’ initial fears about the severity of the injury. “A timetable for Diggs’ return to play has not been established, but he is currently projected to miss the remainder of the current season,” the Cowboys’ front office announced in a statement.

Diggs’ dilemma: Cowboys’ defensive puzzle

The Cowboys’ defense was the talk of the town post-Week 2, keeping their spotless record intact. In September, you won’t find players of Diggs’ caliber just hanging around, but the Cowboys are on the lookout for a stand-in. Looks like DaRon Bland is up for the challenge, lining up opposite the 2019 AP Defensive Player of the Year, Stephon Gilmore.

Bland is a second-year defensive back with eight rookie season starts under his belt. As the Cowboys prep for their showdown with the Arizona Cardinals, will Diggs’ absence echo like Travis Kelce’s during the Chiefs’ opener, or will the Cowboys’ defense sprinkle some of its magic dust and bring home the W for their brother?
