“He’s a brother to me. It suc**. You see how hard he works … Praying for Terry,” Daniels said, according to ESPN’s John Keim. “He’s been there for me through a lot since I came into this league, the adverse times I went through last year and so far this year, and he’s been right by my side. I love Terry and appreciate him a lot.”

McLaurin went down late in the first quarter at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. He was running a route on third-and-9 with 2:16 left, and his knee appeared to buckle as he tried to cut toward the outside. Daniels was sacked on the play. The medical team put an air cast on McLaurin’s left leg before the Commanders confirmed he would not return to the game.

Coach Dan Quinn said the team fears the worst. “The concern now is that it could be significant,” Quinn said after the game. McLaurin was set to undergo scans on Tuesday. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that the team fears a serious, season-ending injury and that McLaurin would get an MRI that day. ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared the news on X.

Fans responded within hours. One fan said: “It was awesome to see the entire Niners team go over and shake his hand too.”

Players from both teams came over to check on McLaurin as he was carted off; his teammates and 49ers players took a knee as he left. Players walked over and shook his hand.

Another fan wrote: “You can hear how much Terry means to that kid.”

McLaurin, the 31-year-old, is a two-time Pro Bowler. The Associated Press lists his career totals at 513 catches, 7,191 yards and 42 touchdowns. He entered Monday leading Washington with 14 receptions for 203 yards and a touchdown. He added a 27-yard catch on the Commanders’ first drive, which ended in a field goal.

A third fan said: “That is Daniels’ go to guy.”

Daniels and McLaurin carried Washington’s 2024 season, the franchise’s best in 33 years. Daniels was named the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year for the 2024 season. Terry McLaurin has been with Washington since 2019. Through the first five games this year, Daniels missed two games, and McLaurin missed one. Both returned in last week’s tie with the New York Giants.

One fan summed it up this way: “Real brotherhood goes beyond the field.”

Another wrote: “Hoping for a fast recovery because losing that connection on the field is a massive blow to the offense.”

With Terry McLaurin potentially facing a serious knee injury, Stefon Diggs is now expected to take over as Washington’s No. 1 receiver. Antonio Williams, Dyami Brown, and Treylon Burks could also see more playing time. The Commanders have another concern on defense, as defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw suffered a knee injury late in the first half and did not return. Washington now heads into its bye week, giving the team some time to assess its injured players. However, the results of McLaurin’s scans had not been announced in the reports reviewed.

The injury is especially frustrating for McLaurin, who had already been dealing with a hamstring problem. He played through it against the Giants last week, recording four catches for 62 yards in the tie. McLaurin grabbed his left knee while lying on the field after the latest injury. Before Monday’s game, he had told ESPN sideline reporter Laura Rutledge that he was happy to be healthy again.

For Washington, losing Terry McLaurin now would be a major setback. He is one of the team’s key receiving options, and even with Diggs stepping into the top role, replacing McLaurin’s impact will not be easy.
