In the past, the MVP-winning QB shared he has no desire to coach teams in the NFL, nor does he want to become an NFL GM. Although The Sheriff is not interested in taking up the job, does he qualify to become the next NFL commissioner?

Can Peyton Manning become the next NFL Commissioner? 

One must have the owners’ nomination and approval in order to become the commissioner of the NFL. The candidate ought to be well-known in the league as well.

For instance, Pete Rozelle was connected with the Los Angeles Rams as their publicity director (1952–1955) and general manager (1957–1960) during the time he was the NFL’s commissioner. Therefore, the candidate should have some experience in the league in some capacity. And Peyton Manning can be a candidate which has always been associated with the NFL.

Although in the ProFootballTalk interview, the former QB clarified that being a commissioner is not on his radar. Also, he said, “I don’t think I’m qualified to do it.” Now, that certainly has to be a joke because many fans think that the immensely talented shot-caller can take over the position of a commissioner. 

The former Broncos QB has an experience of 18 years in the NFL. It resulted in winning five MVP awards and 17 Pro Bowls. Roger Goodell, the current NFL commissioner, is in contract until March 2024. However, the committee may extend his contract to 2026-27. Therefore, there is ample time for Manning to consider himself for the job.
