Indianapolis Colts’ rookie running back, Jonathan Taylor, has enjoyed a solid start to his career in the NFL. Apart from a minor dip in form midway through the season, the Wisconsin product has been a reliable rushing option for the Colts when called upon.
Registering 1,000+ rushing yards and 11 touchdowns in his rookie season, Taylor took some time to get settled to the fast-paced nature of the NFL. But if recent form is anything to go by, he looks to have finally found his footing in the league.

Understanding the importance of playing a team game
Jonathan Taylor, during a segment of the Rich Eisen Show, talked about how a change in mindset played a key role in addressing his dip in form.

“Yeah, it was definitely a mindset change. You know in college you know you’re kind of used to being on the field for a lot of time. But coming into this league, you have a lot of elite talent around you,” he said.

“One has to understand that you don’t necessarily need to have the ball or plays called around you 100% of the time. Because you have guys who are more than capable of playing at the highest level.”
Jonathan Taylor ready to perform when called upon
In only his rookie year, the running back finished 3rd overall for rushing yards in the league. The 41st overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Taylor has also been a potent aerial threat for the Colts. Falling just a yard short of the 300-yard receiving-mark, he has been a dependable outlet for QB Phillip Rivers to aim at.
Despite the dip, Taylor said he was focused on performing to the best of his abilities when called upon.
“What matters is when your number is called, will you be ready to play at the highest level. Make the most out of that opportunity,” said Taylor.

“I had an understanding that no matter when or how my number’s called, (I have) to be able to do my job at a high level. No matter if it’s with the ball or without it.”
Taylor has quite a challenge set ahead of him. The Colts take on the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card Round. And if the Colts are to thwart the Bills party, Taylor will have to bring his A-game to the table.
