Baker Mayfield has some big shoes to fill. The former number-one overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft is all set to start for his fourth team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With the NFL GOAT Tom Brady, having officially walked away from the game, the Bucs would be setting their bets on Mayfield.

Mayfield’s signing comes at a time when the Buccaneers are in the midst of a major roster overhaul due to salary cap restrictions.

As per reports by the NFL network’s Ian Rapoport, Mayfield, and the Tampa Bay franchise have only agreed to a one-year deal, with remunerations up to worth $8.5 million.

Mayfield endured the worst year of his entire career in 2021, and the same misfortune followed him in 2022. However, the Los Angeles Rams helped him maintain his elite level, as he concluded the year with 850 passing yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions across five games.

The fan went on to express his distrust, clearly stating that Mayfield is ‘not him‘. The fan went on to say that the Buccs just needed a QB, and somehow they got Mayfield. The fan continued ridiculing Mayfield based on his looks and his running form. But one thing we can agree on is that this is indeed a ‘true’ Buccs fan as the man concluded with “Bro I’m so embarrassed you are my QB, but Ima stick beside you”

Mekka Don took to Twitter to share a snap of the rather ludicrous text message sent Baker’s way. Although Mekka himself was not sure if the interaction did happen, it was enough to send NFL Twitter into a frenzy.

Fans had a field day with the hilarious exchange, and while many don’t expect Baker Mayfield to enjoy a ton of success, others just like this guy will ‘stick beside him’.

A fresh start for Baker Mayfield?

Baker Mayfield has been bouncing from team to team. Ever since being drafted by the Cleveland Browns, the man has been considered a second choice. First, he was put behind Deshaun Watson while being with the Browns, forcing him to move to the Panthers.

While Mayfield was expected to lead with Carolina, injury pushed him back to a backup role. The LA Rams did give him somewhat of a boost, but the truth of the matter is that Mayfield hasn’t had much time to prove his worth.

Mayfield told reporters, “After seeing a place that makes me have fun playing football again, it’s gonna be hard to try something else new, but it’s gonna be a big-time decision, There’s gonna be a lot of thought put into it.”

With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Mayfield has a completely new opportunity to remind the world of his talents.
