Sports analyst Skip Bayless invited a storm with his initial reaction to the Damar Hamlin collapse. He did try to clear the air later but multiple NFL stars wanted him fired from his show for the insensitive tweet just minutes after the incident. When he came on air the following morning, he issued a statement on the Hamlin situation. But the absence of his partner added more fuel to the already burning fire.

Bayless hosts the ‘Undisputed’ show with NFL legend Shannon Sharpe. And while the analyst gave his statement on the show, Sharpe was nowhere to be found. He visibly looked upset by what all has happened.

Skip Bayless addresses the Damar Hamlin situation 

After the strong reaction to his initial tweet on the matter, sports analyst Skipp Bayless issued an on-air statement on Damar Hamlin’s cardiac arrest. He apologized for any offense that he may cause during the show.

“Allow me to say it upfront that I apologize for what we are going to..set out to do here today if it offends anyone. Because we’re going to try to do the show pretty much as we usually do the show. But I’ll admit upfront, I’m still shook up by what happened last night to Damar Hamlin. In fact, I’m still wrecked. In Fact, I’m not sure I’m capable of doing this show today. But after barely sleeping on it, I decided to give it a try,” Bayless said.

“We wrestled through the night whether to even do the show today because, in our minds, it felt like we almost can’t win with this. Because the last thing we wanna do is come off as insensitive to what this young man is going through in a life-or-death situation,” he added.

His partner Shannon Sharpe gave the show a miss with some reports suggesting that it was due to Bayless’ initial tweet on the matter.

The Skip Bayless controversy 

The controversy began due to a reaction from Skip Bayless. He tweeted moments after Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field against the Cincinnati Bengals. In the tweet, Bayless seemed to question the NFL on how they planned to postpone the rest of the Bengals game with Hamlin’s Buffalo Bills.

The tweet caused a severe backlash with many NFL and sports stars asking him to be fired from his show. Bayless tried to clear the air later, but the damage was already done. His statement on his show is a further attempt to quell the controversy.
