The 2020 NFL season was nothing short of a nightmare for Carson Wentz. From an MVP hopeful to being benched by a rookie QB, Wentz’s fall from grace was appalling. 

As injuries continued to take a toll on the quarterback, the Philadelphia Eagles decided to trade Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts ahead of the 2021 NFL season. 

Now at Indy, Wentz is looking to rediscover himself with his new team. And right now, he believes progress has been made in the right direction.

Carson Wentz ready to take on a new challenge

Talking to the Indy Star, Carson Wentz said starting afresh with the Indianapolis Colts has given the quarterback a new lease of life in the NFL. With experience under his belt, the QB feels he’s now ready to take on whatever comes his way.

“I really feel like I have a new passion for the game,” Wentz said. “I’ve been high, I’ve been injured, I’ve been, now, benched, I’ve been traded, I’ve kinda seen a lot in five years, so whatever the game throws at me, I’m ready.”

The Philly crowd is a tough one to please. And it didn’t take long before the Eagles faithful turned their back on the quarterback. With 16 touchdowns and 15 interceptions, perhaps it was understandable as to why the Philly crowd wanted to close the book on Wentz.

But with the Colts ready to make the QB their starter for 2021, Wentz is excited and elated to be given a second chance. 

“I’m excited, I’m excited about it,” Wentz said. “Just being in the organization and being in the facility, it’s definitely a special place. It’s really got a family vibe and a family element”

Wentz knows he has big shoes to fill. Ever since the shock retirement of Andrew Luck, the Colts have been in search of a permanent QB1. Veteran Philip Rivers filled the gap last season, but as luck would have it, even he retired after one season with the franchise.

“Just knowing there were some guys before me who had done incredible jobs and really are legends in that city is exciting,” said Wentz.

The Indianapolis Colts are taking a risk with Carson Wentz. If he can channel some of his 2017 form, then the Colts are in safe hands. If it’s a repeat of 2020, then it might not take much time before Wentz sets out once again to find a new home.
