Colin Kaepernick has been a polarising figure in the NFL for a long time now. His on-field protests have gotten him neck-deep into politics. And as all that kept unfolding in 2017, the San Francisco 49ers quarterback found it hard to make it back in the league, after a disastrous 2016 season.

His discussions eclipsed not just the sporting community but the entire political sphere too. On one hand, there was Donald Trump, who blasted brutal remarks on Kaepernick for his protest during the national anthem. While, on the other hand, the then President Barack Obama had a cautious approach when weighing the situation.

President Obama when at a Presidential Town Hall gave a well-articulated expression on Colin Kaepernick to CNN.

“There are going to be a lot of folks who do stuff that we just don’t agree with,” President Obama said. “But as long as they’re doing it within the law, then we can voice our opinion objecting to it. But it’s also there, right?”

He added: “So I want Mr. Kaepernick and others who are on a knee, I want them to listen to the pain that that may cause to somebody who, for example, had a spouse or a child who was killed in combat and why it hurts them to see somebody not standing. But I also want people to think about the pain that he may be expressing about somebody who’s lost a loved one that they think was unfairly shot.”

After not being signed by any NFL team for five long years, the former Niner is staring at a sixth year without expecting a snap. The only teams who were in desperate need of a starting quarterback have now made the necessary moves or are either eyeing potential targets who are not named Colin Kaepernick.

The Panthers recently made the move on Baker Mayfield and the Seattle Seahawks are targeting Jimmy Garoppolo to fill in the shoes of Russell Wilson. And given the “disastrous” workout that the former Niner had with the Raiders, the NFL seems to have moved on, or have they?
