The Dallas Cowboys fell at the second hurdle in the playoffs this season. While the loss was disappointing for all on the Cowboys team, it was especially frustrating for kicker Brett Maher. Maher continued to struggle under playoff pressure for the second straight game. And even the Governor of the state of Texas is frustrated with the Cowboys kicker.

Greg Abbott thrashes Brett Maher

Texas Governor Greg Abbott did not like the performance of the Cowboys kicker Brett Maher in the playoffs. He tweeted out his frustration, suggesting that he can kick as good as Maher has in the playoffs. Maybe Jerry Jones will ring up Abbott to sign him for next season.

“I swear, I can kick as good as the Dallas Cowboys kicker,” Abbott tweeted after Maher missed another PAT at the Levi’s Stadium.

Maher corrected himself in the second half of the game against the San Francisco 49ers though. He scored two flawless field goals in either quarter of the second half to keep the scoreboard moving. And both the kicks came when the Cowboys struggled to find the end zone in the game. QB Dak Prescott threw two interceptions in the same game. But one missed PAT attempt was enough for the NFL world to join Abbott in thrashing Maher.

The NFL world pokes fun at Maher

The NFL world never forgets recent bad performances. So, when Brett Maher missed a fifth PAT attempt in two games of the playoffs, the fans wasted no time in poking fun at him. This fan wants Maher to join an iconic NFL QB on an offseason journey.

Maher performed exceptionally well in the regular season for the Cowboys. But the playoff pressure has taken a toll on him. He missed four PAT attempts against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wildcard round of the playoffs. And he faced severe backlash for that. Fast forward one week, Maher missed the only PAT attempt for the Cowboys after the Niners blocked it.

The point wouldn’t have mattered anyway, as the Niners won 19-12. But it surely gave more ammunition to Maher’s critics. What does the future hold for the struggling Cowboys kicker?
