NFL is a big world, with over 32 teams and more than 200 players on different rosters. But at the same time, it is a really small world. In essence, almost every player on every roster is covered in the news which increases their sociability and presence. It is especially the scene, with an NFL star that has retired in recent memory, which is the case for Derek Wolfe.

Derek Wolfe, former Broncos and Ravens defensive end shot up in the news after his retirement earlier this year. Although it is not unnatural for retired ballers to pop up in the news, it is quite common actually. But in the news which he sprung up, and in the manner which he did, it might give a shake to any reader.

Derek Wolfe faces backlash months after retiring from the NFL

Back in January 2023, a news piece broke alleging Wolfe killed a mountain lion and posed with it. That click went on to be uploaded to Instagram. Having retired in 2021 with a super bowl win to his name, Wolfe nor his fans would have expected him to be back in the top news. Especially in the news that broke, on Wolfe and the killing of the mountain lion. Even though he was called to kill the mountain lion, it went on to achieve a negative response anyway.

In an article published on the Mirror, Wolfe remarks, “He was hiding under this lady’s porch down the road,” Wolfe said on his ” The Drive ” podcast. “She told us: ‘Please get rid of him. He killed my dog last year.'” In the same article, fans took to Instagram to comment on their dislike of the killing and voiced their concerns. The fans argued the viability of the complaint and questioned who was disturbing who? As they believed the people living there disturbed the lion’s habitat.

The negativity compounds further when a famous star from the sport or other fields is linked to killing an animal. NFL is the sport for the country and to hear retired stars are killing bears and lions, it’s damning.
