Justin Fields is having a historic season

The Chicago Bears lost to the Miami Dolphins 35-32 last Sunday. It was a back-and-forth thriller between Tua Tagovailoa and the 23-year-old Fields. Tua did come out on top in the end, but it was a magical game for the Bears quarterback. Justin Fields ran for 178 yards, including a running TD, and set the NFL record for rushing yards by a quarterback in the regular season during the Super Bowl era.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB and current sports analyst with NBC, Chris Simms thinks this historic performance has taken Fields to the top of the running quarterbacks’ list in the NFL. Yes, even ahead of Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson. Baltimore is at the top of the AFC North and is having a much better season than the 3-6 Bears. However, Simms believes Justin Fields is more explosive and powerful due to his bigger size. “He’s the best running quarterback in football now as a runner. I’m gonna put him in front of Lamar right now. I think he’s a little faster than Lamar is right now,” Simms said.

Lamar Jackson leads Justin Fields in QBR ratings and his 16 touchdowns are ahead of Field’s 10. However, Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and quarterback coach Andrew Janoco have constructed an offense that perfectly suits their quarterback from Ohio State. The designed runs for Justin Fields have gone up from only 19 in the first six games to 127 in the last three games of this season.

Justin Fields has 6 passing and 3 rushing touchdowns in his last 3 games. At this rate, the Bears are on their way to being a legitimate Super Bowl contender in the coming years. Fields had 301 total yards against the 6-3 Miami Dolphins and has come out as one of the best quarterbacks to emerge out of the 2021 draft class. Simms’ assessment puts him in front of some big names like Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, and Mac Jones.
