Everybody has someone that they look up to. Even our heroes have heroes. Recently Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes revealed he grew up watching LeBron James. The QB has watched the NBA star all his life. LeBron James has been a hero of many over the years. But Mahomes’ relationship with James is different. The two world-class athletes share a bond over fatherhood.

The amazing Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes is on a constant rise to stardom. In his first-ever season in 2018, he threw over 5000 yards and made 50 touchdowns. The likes of a game resembling this have not been seen since the days of Peyton Manning. Mahomes is also the winner of the NFL MVP award. He has also carried the Chiefs to the AFC Championship. 

A debut season like this is difficult to follow up, but Mahomes left it in the rearview. In his second year in the NFL, the young QB led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory. He even won the Super Bowl MVP. Mahomes is still in his early years. His rise to fame is on an incline. The sky is the limit for the youngster.

LeBron James was chosen to be the next Michael Jordan, and boy did King James live up to his nickname ‘The Chosen One.’ Like Jordan, LeBron James has become a name even non-basketball fans recognize. The LA Lakers superstar has won the NBA finals four times. He is a four-time NBA finals MVP. The accomplishment of James is a whole different list of accolades. 

Mahomes and James share a bond over fatherhood

LeBron James is the person Patrick Mahomes grew up watching. “He was someone that I watched growing up, my whole entire life pretty much — him dominating, and he is still dominating the league,” said Mahomes. ”So it definitely was a surreal moment to talk to him for the first time. You meet him and know he is kind of just…he’s a real dude, just like everyone else.” 

Despite the age gap and having careers in totally different fields, both athletes have a great relationship. Recently Mahomes tweeted “Being a dad is cool!” To which King James replied, “Coolest thing ever!!!” Mahomes was overjoyed after the tweet. He appeared on a radio show and said, “I mean, obviously, I have a ton of respect for the guy, but it was kind of a spur-of-the-moment tweet.” The relationship between the two is not of a fanboy and hero. But they both have mutual respect and admiration for one another.
