America’s elite team Dallas Cowboys recently played their first preseason game against the Denver Broncos on Saturday. It turns out the team had to face a frustrating loss of 17-7, and several penalties rallied up by the end of the game. For a long-time, the Cowboys struggled to mitigate their on-field penalties, but every time, they ended up being the leaders. Certainly, this 10 points loss fumed the head coach Mike McCarthy, who revealed that he was unhappy with the performance.

Even before the halftime whistle, the Cowboys committed nine penalties for 65 yards. McCarthy couldn’t believe his eyes as the players were repeating the same mistakes they did in the last season. During half-time, he spoke to CBS 11 and expressed his displeasure against the players.

“It’s not good enough football. It’s not good enough. We’ve gotta be better there. … We battled through some penalty situations, but we have to make sure we get all these substitutions [and] get everybody in the game.” He said. By the end of the match, the Cowboys registered 17 penalties in total for 129 yards in a single game.

Last season, the Cowboys were the season leaders with 127 penalties that cost them 1,103 yards. While starting quarterback Dak Prescott was rested, Cooper Rush was leading the offensive unit. The Cowboys will take on LA Chargers on August 21 as their second preseason game.

How did Mike McCarthy respond to the questions over his job security?

Ever since he assumed the office in 2020, Mike McCarthy has always been a successful coach, leading the Dallas Cowboys from the front. However, the previous year’s playoff blunder in the wild-card round raised questions over his job security.

“It’s irritating that the first question you ask me has nothing to do with how I do my job,” McCarthy responded to the media questions that asked him about his job security. “I show up every day for work to win a championship. How do we win today? That’s what I’m asking. It’s a media-driven narrative or at least a narrative-driven outside my realm.” he added.

Moving ahead in the 2022 season, the Cowboys will have to make sure that they don’t repeat their mistakes. It will be interesting to see how McCarthy manages to make up for the loss in the second game.
