The Green Bay Packers were caught in quarterback limbo this offseason. With franchise QB Aaron Rodgers not turning up for practice due to his fractured relationship with the side’s front office, the Packers were unsure heading into training camp as to who their QB1 would be.

But in the end, Rodgers managed to mend ways with the Packers front office. Albeit a patch job, Aaron Rodgers will still be the Packers’ starting QB in 2021. But beyond that, it all remains uncertain.

But the Packers were provided with a gift that not at all possess. They were given a sneak into their future. With Aaron Rodgers not starting the preseason games, the apparent Packers heir to the throne Jordan Love took snaps. 

This was Love’s first experience of playing in a regulated NFL game. Sitting out the entirety of his rookie season, Love finally got his chance to show the world that he can take over from three-time NFL MVP winner Aaron Rodgers. 

So how exactly was Jordan Love through the course of the offseason? Green Bay Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur weighed in.

“I think for the most part he’s done a nice job,” LaFleur said while talking to ESPN. “Certainly these are teachable moments, and I think you have to experience those and go through those in a game setting to really learn from them, so I’m pretty certain that he will learn from those mistakes and hopefully he doesn’t repeat them.”

LaFleur knows that this would probably be the last time the young QB would get a chance to play this season. From what we’ve seen, he definitely does show promise. But is he truly the worthy successor to Aaron Rodgers? 

As things stand, no. Love can prove to be a great quarterback, but he is nowhere near the level of Aaron Rodgers to call him his worthy successor at Green Bay.

There is obviously the possibility of Love reaching that level someday. But for now, he’s still got a lot of catching up to do to take over as the side’s QB1.
