NFL quarterback Baker Mayfield might be calling time on his tenure with the Cleveland Browns as they edge closer to the signing of QB Deshaun Watson. The door now seems open for Mayfield to choose where he wants to play in the 2022 NFL season. It seems the departure of Baker Mayfield is inevitable, as rumors about his next destination come to light.

According to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe, Mayfield did reach out to the Browns and stated his wish to join the Indianapolis Colts next season. While there remain a few other teams in the race for his signature, the list isn’t much bigger.

The wheels of his departure were set in motion on Thursday. It took place before the Browns had even reached an agreement to sign Watson from the Texans.

The player seems to have already made up his mind and did send a tweet thanking all the Cleveland supporters. The No.1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Mayfield and his relationship with the franchise has strained to a point of no return. Mayfield’s injuries during the 2021 NFL campaign have only thrown a spanner into the works leading to a rise in frustration.

The former Browns player might be in with a shot, as the Colts recently traded their QB, Carson Wentz, to the Washington Commanders. Amidst the shortlist of QBs on the market, Mayfield might be the premier option for the Colts organization looking to step up their game. Apart from Mayfield, Jimmy Garoppolo and Jameis Winston will be on the Colts’ radar.

The only hindrance to their plans would be the absence of a first-round pick to trade away for a player like Mayfield. A big determining factor for Mayfield could be the desperation to play in the same division against the Browns and prove them wrong.

He will be aiming to outperform Watson when the opportunity arrives to show everyone. NFL fans did share their views as they took to Twitter.

One Twitter user was questioning whether the trade has any possibility of happening.

While one NFL fan was pleading to GM Chris Ballard to sign and deliver Mayfield to Indianapolis.

Finally, a fan was excited at the prospect of seeing Mayfield in the Colts jersey.

While his availability will be a big question starting next season, Mayfield is the desirable player for any ambitious franchise. He will be hoping for a quick recovery from the torn labrum in his left shoulder and raring to play.
