The 2020 season witnessed Philadelphia Eagles’ Carson Wentz going from bad to worse. Things have gotten to the point where Head Coach Doug Pederson is forced to rely on rookie Jalen Hurts.

Wentz really struggled throughout 2020. He got sacked more than 3 times in 10 games. What’s more, his stats have dropped consistently over the course of this season. His passer ratings, from 93.1 in 2019, have fallen to 72.8 in 2020.
Doug Pederson, after analyzing his entire performance, made the following decision. “I have come to a decision and I am going to go with Jalen Hurts this week against New Orleans, we’re not where we want to be as an offense.

Carson Wentz gets swapped
Hurts stepped into Wentz’s shoes on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. He came on in the second half of the game. With Hurts playing, the Eagles made 4 times the normal points, over 2 times the total yards.
They even went 16 passing yards through 2 quarters to 145 in the final 2 periods. In the second half, the Eagles’ yards per play rocketed up from 2.9 to 6.7.
Although they lost, it was clear that this swap was the need of the hour. He had thought of this earlier too but did not act upon it as Wentz is the team’s franchise shot-caller.

“Carson is like all of us right now, he’s disappointed. He’s frustrated, he’s been a professional through it all. He supports his teammates, and that’s what you want to see from him, the leader of the team.
“I know sometimes the quarterback gets a lot of the blame like the head coach does. It’s the good with the bad. It’s not about Carson Wentz. It’s not about one person.
“We know we have issues on offense and it has been a struggle for us all season. That’s where the frustration lies a little bit, but he’s been a pro and would expect nothing less,” said Pederson.
This change had to be made in order for the Philadelphia Eagles to move up beyond Week 15. Hurts will be starting the game against the New Orleans Saints.
