The Philadelphia Eagles had an extremely easy win over the Minnesota Vikings. The Eagles were able to earn their victory thanks to their clutch passes, strong rushing game, and some exceptionally good performances by QB Jalen Hurts. However, the Eagles’ standing 2-0 could not impress the analyst Stephen A. Smith.

Stephen Smith expressed his displeasure with the Philadelphia Eagles

On September 15th, in an ESPN discussion, Smith revealed that the Eagles have not impressed him so far. The analyst also mentioned that the team deserves a lot of credit, especially after losing both coordinators. But it seems like the Eagles have not played up to his expectations.

In the off-season, two of the coaches left to be the new head coaches in other places so Smith said that some rough edges were definitely expected. He stated, “My concern is that they’re 16 to nothing in the first quarter against the New England Patriots in the season opener, and they got outscored 20-9 the rest of the way. Last night in the third quarter, they were up 27-7 and all of a sudden they allowed it to become a game… You see a team like the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC and you know that the Dallas Cowboys with that defense is coming.”

Stephen said that he did not like the fact that the Philadelphia Eagles are defensively giving up. “They’re not totally, but they’re really really surrendering the cushion they built along the way.” While the majority would agree with the analyst’s opinions, it is worth noting that the Eagles’ defense has both strengths and weaknesses.

What is wrong with the Eagles’ defense?

While the Eagles’ defense has the ability to stop the run which disturbs the opposite team’s rushing attack, they also need to work on their tackle and safety. The team’s back end stands out as a weakness along with the corner positions. Not to mention, the Eagles lack ‘proven linebackers with a history of consistency’.
